Bringing Your Hair Back from the Dead: The Ultimate Guide for Hair Revival

Get a Trim

Before turning to any products, the first step on how to bring dead hair back to life is a haircut. In fact, regular trims are one of the best things you can do to prevent lackluster hair in the first place. We consulted with Pasadena, California based hairstylist, Maggie Manley about hair revival treatments for her clients. "Sometimes hair gets to a point that any mask or treatment won't do much and the dead needs to be cut off," she explains. "And if you wait too long, the split ends just keep breaking higher up—therefore you would need to cut more than you potentially want." The takeaway: don't go so long without a trim that you end up having to involuntarily get a pixie cut in order to rid yourself of all that damaged hair.

Do a Deep Conditioning Treatment

You love a hydrating mask for your face? Why wouldn't you want the same for your hair? A deep conditioning mask can work wonders for hair shine and scalp health. The NuMe Mane Goals Deep Repair Mask is an amazing hair revival treatment. Use it and you will have people asking if you've recently colored your hair—it really brings out the brightness of any hue.

Go For a Gloss or a Glaze Instead of a Dye

Consider a gloss or a glaze treatment, rather than a full on dye job. Tinted gloss treatments can maintain the color and polish it up. You can even get a gloss with a clear tint if you've never dyed your hair but want to brighten your natural color. A glaze is even less intense but still adds a lot of shine. NYC based colorist Carline Ortega explained the difference to In Style: "A glaze does not contain peroxide or ammonia. It simply coats or sits on top of the hair. Incapable of depositing or lifting color from the hair cuticle, they are even more temporary than a gloss." A gloss or glaze in a salon is a quick (and relatively inexpensive) way to pump life back into your hair.

Ease Up on the Heat

Avoid using heat on your hair constantly. Manley agrees and says, "Not putting heat on your hair everyday will save you from so much future damage!" Make blowouts last longer with a go-to dry shampoo (AKA Captain Hair Hero). Our Dirty to Flirty Dry Shampoo is a great way to healthily preserve your style and bring your dead hair back to life. It's eco friendly and safe for all hair types.

Protect From the Heat

When you do need to bust out the blow dryer, curling wand or straightener, be sure to use a heat protective spray on your strands prior to drying and styling. The NuMe Watch Me Werk Thermal Heat Protectant can be applied to wet or dry hair with a side bonus of smelling fantastic. Another way to use less heat? Let your hair air dry for about 15 minutes prior to blow drying. This cuts down on your drying time and makes the job easier for you and your dryer. Coat a freshly styled look with our Not Your Basic End Sealer to further protect your strands.

Sleep Right

Invest in a silk pillowcase. British hair professional Louise Galvin revealed to Oprah.com that, "silk reduces friction and moisture loss." It'll make you feel pretty fancy too.
