Carrie Bradshaw and the actress who portrayed her, Sarah Jessica Parker, had a lot of iconic looks (with clothes and hair) throughout Sex and The City. But perhaps the most quintessential Carrie is the hair you see in the opening montage where she's wearing a tutu and getting splashed with water by the NYC bus. That's what we picture when we hear the name, Carrie Bradshaw. In a way, Carrie made super curly hair cool again at the end of the 1990s, where straightening had taken hold as an antithesis to 80s wild child hair. For the iconic Bradshaw curls, we'd recommend a wand that creates the most natural looking shape, like our Classic Curling Wand Pearl. If you’re already blessed with natural curls, we suggest using a dryer with a diffuser attachment. Then set on a low speed with high heat, after you've applied some a volumizing formula like the NuMe Hi! And Dry Blow Dry Cream to damp hair.
If you grew up watching Friends, you are well aware that there was a 7th main female character in that show, and it was Jennifer Aniston's hairstyle. When the show first premiered, her character Rachel Green's haircut AKA "The Rachel" took on a life of its own and women across the country were trying to replicate it. The TV star's hairstyle, defined by blunt, choppy layers all over the head, does require a bit of maintenance. Aniston herself complained about how hard it was to style the cut when she had to deal with it, sans the help of an on-site hair crew. One of the stylists who created the haircut has suggested that anyone wanting to try it themselves should arm themselves with an anti-frizz serum like our Gloss Boss Serum, a round bristle brush, and a lot of patience.
Mary Tyler Moore's character in the groundbreaking 1970s television series that bears her name was both a feminist hero and contender for best female character hairstyle of the decade. The full mane with an upward flip at the ends became a staple style. It's still a classic look for special occasions (or just a #bighairdontcare photo opp). To achieve the Mary Tyler Moore look, you'll need to start with some root lifter like our Root Werk Root Lifter followed by a careful blowout with a dryer that features salon quality results, such as the NuMe Signature Hair Dryer. There may be some backcombing involved in the middle sections of hair, as well as a firm hold hairspray if you want that news-producer-of-another-era fullness.
The beloved TV heroine played by Sarah Michelle Gellar, Buffy Summers, showcased a variety of styles over the show's run, which was from 1997 to 2003. She is most strongly associated with the long, straight locks during the third and fourth seasons of the show. While the style varied per episode, it is possible to achieve the beautiful, highlighted blonde base with a ceramic plated flat iron. Hair technology has advanced since the turn of the century, so getting Buffy's hairstyle today would require a straightener like our Silhouette, which has healthy hair perks like pure ceramic floating plates to seal moisture and slay like Buffy.
Easily one of the most glamorous and memorable characters on television ever, Gloria Delgado-Pritchett has had enviable hair since the show first debuted in 2009. (Little known fun fact: The actress playing Gloria, Sofia Vergara, is a natural born blonde.) The TV star's hairstyles are usually parted in the middle and cascading over her shoulders in soft waves, and always ultra shiny. For Vergara inspired big, full curls, we'd recommend our Classic Curling Wand with a 32 mm barrel. To replicate the episodes where Gloria has tighter ringlets towards her ends, the NuMe Classic Curling Wand Reverse should be your go-to. Finally, if you're trying to get that modern fam luster, we'd go for a shine agent along the lines of our Gloss Boss Serum.
