Confidence is all about walking into a room with your head held high. Confidence is knowing who you are and being proud of it, it is feeling in control of your life and conquering your dreams and aspirations. This is why we made confidence the theme of this year's National Hair Day. It has been scientifically proven that a good hair day has an even bigger effect on your confidence than you may have thought. 

We believe that confidence can only exist when we as women take the moment to recognize our intrinsic value, and the incredible impact we as women have in the world.

As much as we talk about the beauty of women’s hair, it’s important to also recognize how incredible women are beyond just having beautiful hair. Women bring life into the world. They’re leaders, entrepreneurs, civil servants, and revolutionaries.

This also doesn’t mean hair and beauty is unimportant. Women are amazing because they can occupy roles in society that men do, and have stunning hair too. 

That is the versatility we have as women, and that versatility must be celebrated. That versatility gives us confidence. We’re intelligent, charismatic, unique, inspiring, and beautiful all at the same time.

So celebrate yourself, spoil yourself, and most importantly, have confidence in yourself….because you are a woman.

But what is National Hair Day really about? On October 1st, we celebrate all hair stylists, colorists, barbers, tools, products and even yourself for always showing  your hair love. 

 

If you didn’t know, NuMe is the founder of National Hair Day. 5 years ago, CEO Sabrina Maren decided enough is enough and we all deserve to celebrate not just our hair, but everyone and every product that helps our hair exceed expectations. So, thank your hairdresser and kiss your favorite curling wand!

That is what brings us to an extra special celebration this year as the hairoliday reaches its 5 year mark. Accordingly to numerology, the number 5 represents freedom, curiosity and change. This is exactly what we at NuMe encourage everyone to do not only in their life, but of course with their hair! Having the freedom to change your hair whenever you please is one of the best ways to express yourselves. Whether you want to dye your hair pink, play around with extensions, or try a crazy new hairstyle, the possibilities are endless. Hair speaks louder than words, and we want to encourage everyone on this 5 year anniversary of National Hair Day to fully submerge into the ocean of creativity and let the world know who you are through your hair! 

There are many ways to celebrate the hairoliday, so we broke it down to our 5 favorite ways to celebrate National Hair Day 2022:

1. Give your hair some love

The best way you can prep your hair for a day of hair confidence, is giving it some love with a hair mask. We recommend a mask with smoothing power. Sometimes your hair just needs a refresh. After a while of constant styling it is not uncommon that your hair can begin to look dull. It is the perfect time to give your mane a spruce with a mask that will add moisture and shine and prepare it to take on any type of heat!

National Hair Day 2022 is also a great time to try out a new hairstyle as a test run before the holiday season, just in case you don't like it (but trust us, we think you will love it).

We broke down 5 of our favorite hairstyles to try out this season:

Curtain Bangs and Shag Haircut 

Don’t fret curtain bangs aren’t going anywhere and they are the perfect new style to try for fall. With the return of the Indie era upon us, what is better than staying ahead of the trends with the return of the shag cut. There are many different hair lengths to the shag cut, from very short layers to longer layers. It’s full on top and tapered toward the ends. We love Billie Eilish’s current take on this timeless carefree style, and her wispy bangs really set it off.

Curtain bangs will have a shorter section in the middle, and gradually longer sections on each side. They’re a great choice because they fit most face shapes and blend perfectly with this style. This cut is easy to maintain and does a lot of the work for you. 

Here’s how to style this cut:

• Add Watch Me Werk thermal protectant to damp hair, then a light mist of root lifter to a few parted sections at your roots.

• Using your hair dryer, do a 1-2 minute quick dry but leave your hair still damp.
• Use a round brush and hair dryer with the concentrator attachment to blow out each section of hair. Angle the strands around the brush away from your face, sweeping toward the back, and continue until the length is dry.
• For your bangs, place the round brush behind the shorter middle section at the top of your head. Wrap the middle section around the round brush angled toward the back. Twist the brush slowly while blow drying. Do the same with the longer side pieces. 
• Set your curling wand to 300• using a 1-inch barrel.
• Begin with 1-inch sections at the shorter lengths of your hair near the top. Wrap hair around the curling wand angling toward the back. Continue working down to the longer lengths. 
• Toss your hair with fingers or lightly pass through curls with a wide tooth comb.
• Use a light dusting of finishing spray to set your shag look.

Long Shag

The long shag haircut is basically your best friend if you are looking to add some drama to your long locks. It’s hard to infuse volume into long hair because it’s heavy! The carefully placed layers allow your hair to bounce up to its full potential at every level. 

Long shag tapers from shorter and full on top/middle, to thinner, long layers at the bottom. The shorter layers give the sexy, full dimension you’ve been missing. It’s easy to learn how to style long hair and use the shaggy layers to your advantage. This style is great for fresh clean hair or day 2-3 hair.

• If your hair is wet, spray in thermal protectant throughout the length and blow dry with a paddle brush or easy brush to keep tangles at bay. 
• If hair is dry, spray in thermal protectant and avoid your roots, then blow dry for 1 minute.
• Heat curling wand to 300• with the large 32mm barrel.
• No need to section off your hair with this style! Start your curls at the top.
• Wrap 1-inch sections of hair around the curling wand, winding away from you. leave out 1-2 inches at the bottom of each piece. 
• Work your way around your head, curling each length starting with the shortest (at the top) then curling the longest layer (at the bottom) last.
• Spray a light mist of medium hold hairspray all over, then do a few rockstar hair flips to break up any tight curls. 

The sleek, sophisticated long bob (LOB) has made a big comeback. It’s perfect for the office, nightlife, and the gym. The newly available tools are making this style one of the easiest and most popular current looks. 

Always keep up with your 8-week hair appointments so your style falls just right. You want your ends to fall right at the collarbone or top of shoulder level. It’s important to use high-quality products and the right tools to keep this look smooth all day.

• Add hair Rise And Prime hair primer to damp hair and smooth through evenly. Add a small amount of sleeky in a bottle evenly to your strands, then spray heat protectant onto the length of your hair. 
• Blow dry your hair straight with a small round brush.
• Set your flat iron to 300• and separate your hair into top and bottom sections. Begin with the bottom section.
• Working in 1-inch sections, straighten each section slowly. Slightly twist the straightener toward you, forming the hair into a C-shaped curve toward your chin. Repeat with the top section. 
• When straightening your bangs, turn the flat iron inward, slightly toward you to create a gentile swoop on each side to frame your face.
• Use a fine tooth comb to smooth everything into place. Spray a dusting of finishing spray over your entire style, then use the fine tooth comb to smooth down any flyaways while the product is still damp.

Tousled Lob Haircut

A lob haircut or long bob haircut falls right at the collarbone to the top of the shoulders. If you have been searching for the perfect, easy to style medium length cut, this is for you. These are 2 easy ways to get a tousled look using only a couple of products and tools.

• Use a heat protectant while your hair is still damp.
• Part your damp hair in several sections and add a light mist of Root Werk root lifter to the roots holding your arm out wide.
• Blow dry with a concentrator attachment while taming your strands with a paddle brush or a round brush, to add volume.

Now that your hair is dry, use one of these styling tricks to get that tousled look.

Flat Iron Curl  

• Use your Megastar flat iron first to straighten the ends of your hair, the last 2 inches. 
• Use a curling wand with the medium-sized 1-inch barrel at about 300•. 
• Start with the front sides (bangs). Wrap 1-inch pieces in alternating directions. Wrap hair around the curling wand, leaving the bottom 2 inches straight while holding the end of the section of hair. Hold 3 - 4 seconds.
• Working your way to the back, clip up your already curled top sections and continue with the underside of your hair until all hair is curled.
• Use fingers to toss hair at the roots and break up curls for a tousled look.
• Then add a light mist of medium hold hair spray only if needed.

Twist & Press 

• Set your flat iron to 300•.
• Give the entire length of your dry hair a light mist of medium-hold hair spray. Allow it to dry for 1 minute before twisting.
• Using 1-inch sections, twist the hair section tightly. 
• Close the flat iron onto the twist, starting at the crown, and hold in place for 2 seconds. Work your way down the twist one inch at a time (1-inch flat iron), holding for 2 seconds each time. 
• Continue pressing each twisted section with the flat iron, working your way to the back. If needed, clip up your already styled pieces and repeat on the underside until all sections are pressed and styled.
• Use your fingers to toss hair and break up waves for a tousled look.
• Arrange your part and bangs to your style preference. Either middle part or side toss.
• Finish with a light hold hairspray.

Sleek Model Bun

Don’t want to commit to the cut? No problem, have you tried the slick back bun? This is the go-to style for that last day before washing your hair. A little grit goes a long way to make this style proper. You’ll often see Bella Hadid rocking this look off and on duty.

• Use your easy brush, and a straightening comb (fine tooth comb) for this look
• Part your hair in the middle. Use a cream-based styling product like split end sealer to keep all of your hair smooth in your bun. Rub it in between your hands and get a little all over the top 2 inches of your hair from back to front. Focus on your part, front sides, and back, where you’ll want smooth hair when it’s tied up.
• Use your easy brush, starting at one side of your part to brush hair diagonally upward while keeping your part on both sides.
• Keep brushing at a diagonal to keep your part while gathering your hair into a ponytail at your crown. Brush the back of your hair into the ponytail as well while keeping the roots smooth.
• Use an elastic to secure your ponytail. Then twist your ponytail clockwise and wrap it into a bun leaving 1-inch of hair out.
• Secure your bun with another elastic, and fan out the hair left out from your bun.
• Add a layer of medium hold hairspray to keep all flyaways tamed, and smooth them down with your fine tooth comb at the scalp while the spray is still damp.

What motivated you to found National Hair Day? 

“Our hair is such a valuable asset and it deserves to have its own day of celebration, awareness and activities. It's a fun way to come together and share experiences, styles, struggles, tricks and tips. It’s also an opportunity to give our gratitude to the professional stylists that are part of our hair journey.” 

What is your Hair Care philosophy and how does it fit into NuMe’s culture?

“Healthy hair is beautiful hair. The key to long-lasting hairstyles is starting with healthy hair. Scalp and hair health is the most important and all NuMe Products are designed to improve and maintain your hair’s health, not just a bandaid. NuMe products work from the inside out. As they say ‘beauty starts on the inside’.” 

You launched NuMe 13 years ago. What accomplishment/product are you most proud of so far? 

“I am proud of all our products! Each NuMe product is developed with a lot of love and care. All our hot tools have the NuMe proprietary ionic heat technology, gentle on the hair backed by powerful results. One of our most technologically advanced, and customer favorites styling tools is the Megastar Hair Straightener, voted Best Flat Iron of 2022 by the prestigious Glamor Beauty Awards. Our newest and coolest launch this year is our Automatic Curling Wand, voted Best New Beauty Product of 2022, it creates curls with a click of a button and is the most advanced rotating curling iron on the market.

This National Hair Day we want to emphasize the link between Hair and Confidence. Surely hair can give us the external appearance of being well managed and in control. We want to know - What makes Sabrina feel most confident? 

“Smooth Hair. No matter the style, frizz-free hair makes me feel the most confident. The hair is such an important aspect of our look and when the hair is not smooth the overall look feels incomplete.” 

What’s your secret tip to having the most healthy hair? 

“Layer your products! In order to get the most out of your products, you should be layering them. All our products work in tandem and can be used on wet or dry hair. 

My natural hair is coarse, porous and frizzy. I need hydration and smoothness so I make sure to use NuMe products that help me achieve this goal. 

I use the Tourmaline Shampoo and conditioner and once a week the Tourmaline Mask. My big secret is that I apply the Tourmaline Hair Mask to wet hair and leave it on for a few hours, the secret is to keep it on for as long as possible. When I rinse it out my hair is so hydrated and soft!

For daily styling, I use the Ready, Set, Smooth! Styling Trio. The set includes Rise and Prime Hair Primer, Sleeky in A Bottle Serum, and Seal the Deal End Sealer - the perfect combination for smooth hair! NuMe Products can be used on wet or dry hair.

I start with Rise and Prime on my wet hair, starting mid-length to ends. It’s a hair primer and leave-in conditioner, so it helps all other products to absorb better into the hair.  

Next, I go in with Sleeky in A Bottle Serum on wet hair to help tame my mane. With my thick hair, I use 2 to 3 pumps. For thinner hair, 1 small pump should be enough - NuMe products are very potent and less is more. 

I let my hair air dry and use the Megastar Flat Iron to style my hair. After styling, I apply 1 to 2 more pumps of Sleeky in A Bottle Serum for a smooth finish. 

I finish my look with Seal the Deal End Sealer to seal the cuticles and prevent split ends.”
