Many of us style our hair the same exact way every day. Some of us may get up early and take the time in the morning to go for an all-out updo. But if we are going to a party or have some sort of special occasion planned, well, this calls for extra special party hairdos. We may want to style our hair to go with a dress we bought especially for the occasion, or we may just want to try a different trendy hairstyle for a party night.

Whatever the reason may be, this is the time to take it up a notch and do something new and adventurous with our hair. Now the question is, what party hairdo will you be trying?

Sexy Curls

When it comes to sexy hairstyles, nothing beats those loose wavy curls we all know and love.

Although rollers are still an option in getting the look you want, a curling iron makes all that fuss a thing of the past.

While you might think it’s best to use a larger curling iron to get those loose curls, a smaller one (1-1/2”) is actually better. The curls will be tight but they will start to unravel during the day. Curl your hair a few hours before the party so they are loose and wavy when you are ready to go.

If you start with a bigger iron, it’s likely hair will be stick-straight again by party time.

Side-Swept Braid

If you love that sexy look of having all your hair falling over one shoulder here’s how to do it.

First, curl your hair. Then, take a large section of one side of your hair and French braid towards the back of your head moving towards the opposite side. Secure it with bobby pins where necessary.

After that, create a small three-strand braid on the other side of your head and use it to tie the ends together tucking excess hair behind the ear.

If your hair is not long enough to pull off the style, you can clip-in extensions before styling.

Sleek High Ponytail

A sleek ponytail will provide a sophisticated look that will show off both your facial and physical contours perfectly. It’s great when you really want to draw attention to you.

To achieve the look, slick hair back into a ponytail holder. Use a bit of hair oil or product to prevent fly-aways and then you’ll be good to go.

Fishtail Ponytail

The fishtail ponytail is the perfect way to finish off a soft, romantic look.

To create a fishtail, start off by creating a high ponytail. Then divide the hair in the ponytail in two.

Take a small section from the outer part of the right section of your hair and tuck into the middle, then do the same with the left side. Continue until all hair is braided, then use a ponytail holder to secure the bottom.

Braided Half Updo

The braided half updo is another romantic style. It pulls the hair in the front away from the face to draw attention to the facial features and outfit while the rest remains down for an overall ‘long-hair look’.

To achieve this look, take the sections of the hair you would like to braid and separate them from the rest of your hair. Begin braiding using a fishtail French braid or regular French braid technique. When the two sides meet, use a ponytail holder to tie them together or continue braiding both parts as one.

Twisted Bun

A twisted busted bun gives a soft and elegant look that is perfect for formal occasions.

To get this look, take your hair and pull it to the back of your head. Divide it into two sections. Then, twist each section around the other. Once that is done, use a hair tie to keep them twisted.

After that, start twirling around your hair so it begins forming a bun on your head. Once you have used the entire length of your hair, tuck the end under your bun and use bobby pins to hold it in place.

The overall look will be a loose bun with strands falling in your face.

Headband Updo

The headband updo is a vintage look that will go perfectly with a 60's style party dress.

You will want to start by styling hair into a tight bun. Therefore, you will want to begin with your hair in a high ponytail that is on the crown of your head. Then, twist hair around and work it into a bun that sits high on your head.

Add a hairband of your choice. Something elegant and glittery will do quite nicely.

Top Knot

The top knot is expected to dominate the party scene this year. This bun with the rest down look is reminiscent of Princess Leia, but it takes it to the next level.

The first step will be deciding if you want one bun or two. You can wear one bun on top of your head or wear one on either side (Princess Leia style). Then, you will need to take the amount of hair you would like to put in the bun and put it in a hair tie.

Next, twist hair up into a bun and pin with bobby pins. Glam it up with a great outfit and accessories and you’re ready to party!

Hollywood Waves for Short Hair

If you have shorter hair, you can use a curling iron to get a great, classic Hollywood look.

For this style, you’ll want to use a larger barrel curling iron, like the 32mm Classic Wand.

Part your hair on the side and curl the side of your hair with less hair away from your face. As you work around your head, start curling hair inward to get the look. Add a touch of hairspray and you’ll have a classic look that will last through the entire evening.

Braided Wreath Updo

The holiday season is the perfect time to get a braided wreath updo look. More likely than not, you’ll need to bust out your extensions for this style. The extensions will make sure you can get the desired length and volume.

Start by clipping in extensions. Then take a section of your hair and clip it behind your head to produce a ‘ponytail and the rest down’ look. Hair should be clipped loosely with a clear band.

Next, take hair on one side of your head and twist it into a braid. Take the braid and wrap it around your head clipping it at the opposite side of your head. Do the same thing on the other side of your hair.

Now, take the remaining hair clipped in the ponytail and divide that into two sections. Twist up one section and pin it to the opposite side of your hair and then do the same for the other section.

A side Dutch braid is a sleek and sophisticated look that will make a terrific complement to your holiday outfit. To make the braid extra long and thick, add extensions before styling.

Start by parting your hair on the side. Take the side with more hair and start creating a French braid near to the top of your head. Incorporate more hair as you work down, making sure to gather all your hair so that nothing is left out when your braid is completed.

Fierce Pierced Braids

Piercings are hot, so why not pierce your hair too? Alongside braids, piercings will give you a fierce warrior princess look.

Start by dividing your hair into small sections. Then, French braid it for braids that start at the scalp and go down the length of your hair. The amount of braids you create is up to you but 4-8 is a good range.

Now use earrings or other types of rings to go through your braids so that you give it a pierced look. Rings can be put in the hair at the top or bottom making for a glamorous look that will be sure to be an eye-catcher.

Sleek and Messy

This is an easy style that will produce a punk/ avant garde look.
