The Steps You Need to Take to Ensure Your Hair Care Routine Is Always on Point

Mask It Up

If you haven’t been regularly using a hair mask like ourTourmaline Hair Mask, you need to get on it to take better care of your hair. Just like your skin sometimes needs an extra dose of hydration, so does your hair. Hair masks can help to enhance shine, restore moisture, and prevent breakage. There’s really no downside. Add it to your regular hair care routine steps (we’d recommend 2 or 3 times a week) and you’ll definitely see a shiny difference in your locks!

Soak up that conditioner

One of the most underrated healthy hair hacks is using aleave-in conditioner on the reg. Think of it like applying lotion to your body. You don’t slather it on, then rinse it off—it absorbs into the skin! While you normally rinse shampoo and conditioner in the shower, it’s advantageous to periodically apply the conditioner after you step out of the shower. Let it stay in the strands so they can really absorb all the benefits. We recommend Rise and Prime Hair Primer, this versatile product is a great base prior to heat styling or on it's own as a leave-in conditioner.

Always use protection.

Use a heat protectant before styling with hot tools! Protective sprays are created so that you can repeatedly utilize heat styling tools like curling wands or straighteners without doing long-term damage to your hair. It’s a crucial step to maintaining healthy locks, and we can’t emphasize the importance of not skimping on this enough.

Slow your roll with the dryer.

It’s always a good idea to let hair air-dry partially before blow drying. Even with salon-quality dryers like ourBold Hair Dryer, which utilizes far infrared heat technology to protect hair over time, blasting a dryer on hair that’s sopping wet can significantly extend your drying time, hence adding more heat to the head than necessary and in turn causing more casualties over time. Hair is more fragile when it’s drenched-level wet too. Save your arm strength and your mane by spending more time air drying, and less time blow drying.

Master your product application technique.

With most styling products, timing is everything. Apply the product todamp hair, rather than soaking wet hair, right before styling to activate its desired results most effectively. If you use an anti-frizz serum, for example, on super wet hair, it won’t do its job as well as it would if you had rubbed into moderately damp locks, right before the heat hits your head. The same goes for heat-protective spray before using a wand or straightener—you should spritz, then immediately style or straighten for best results. And when it comes to actually putting stuff in your hair, read the directions regarding exactly where it’s supposed to go. A root lifter or dry shampoo is sprayed directly in the roots, while a smoothing serum such usually goes on midsections to ends of strands.

Heat hair with precision.

Don’t use a heat styling tool on the same section of hair repeatedly. If you run the flat iron over a section of hair, try to make it the only time in that straightening sesh. The same goes for a curling wand—try and only wrap the section once. With tools like ourClassic Curling Wand andMegastar Hair Straightener, you are already taking better care of your hair using tourmaline ceramic, but it’s still ideal to only clamp or wrap once in terms of big picture hair health longevity. Oh, and AGAIN, mist on the heat-protective spray right before your curl or flat iron, always and forever.
