How to Choose the Right Curling Wand

Choosing the right wand may not always be as easy as it sounds. That’s why we’re here to help guide you through picking the ideal styling device for your hair type and needs. For starters, the two single-barrel wands we recommend are the NuMe Classic Wand and NuMe Magic Wand.

If you’re looking for multi-barrel sets, however, the equivalent to the Classic Wand is the Lustrum (five barrels) and Octowand (eight barrels), and for the Magic Wand, the Titan 3. While the Classic and Magic Wand may seem similar in many ways, these two tools have some distinctly different properties. In order to determine what will work best for you, ask yourself the following questions:

What’s My Hair Type?

This is the most crucial question to ask because your hair type will determine a) whether or not the wand will work for you and b) whether or not it will damage your hair. In a nutshell, Classic Wand is meant to be used more frequently to curl the hair of thin to medium thickness and is perfect for colored or chemically treated hair. This wand is made with tourmaline ceramic, which is the safest stone for damage-free results.

The Magic Wand, on the other hand, is made with a titanium barrel. This means it works very well for thicker hair types. However, the significantly greater styling power also means it may be too strong for thin or chemically treated hair.

How Often Will I Use It?

The Classic Wand is safe enough to be used daily, while Magic Wand should be used less often because of its stronger power. The Magic Wand is designed for professionals are accustomed to higher levels of heat.

Don’t use the Magic Wand daily until you consult with a professional, who can tell you it’s safe. In fact, if you aren’t sure how to proceed, it’s a good idea to visit a stylist who uses both types of tools to help you achieve your desired style the first time, then purchase the wand that works best for you.

Do I Have the Right Products to Complement the Results?

When heat styling we recommend priming your hair with NuMe Hair Care, specifically meant for safeguarding hair, including primer, heat protectant and end sealer. This will help ensure that your hair is nourished and protected. Afterward, we recommend that you hold your curls in place with the White Truffle Serum or NuMe Argan Oil, depending on your hair's needs. NuMe has several types of serums that offer an effective way to add shine.

Beautiful, bouncy curls are a totally accessible goal, as long as you know which tool to use. Just don’t jump in feet-first. Instead, make use of this guide and ask the right questions to ensure you have beautiful, healthy hair over the long haul.
