Hair Talk: Master Colorist and Silk Press Artist Natalie Wongsang
1 min readIn preparation for National Hair Day, we sat down with D.C. based master hair colorist and silk press artist, Natalie Wongsang, to get her take on current trends as well as her tried and true favorites.
What is the one hair trend everyone should try this autumn?
Cool tones mixed with autumn colors - think pumpkin tones for funky colors and chocolate tones for classic fall vibes.
For hair cuts - curtain bangs, shags, and cute wash and wear quick styles
What is your secret to having healthy hair?
Healthy hair starts in the shower with a good shampoo, conditioner, and mask. Using a low pH shampoo that is both hydrating and cleansing will give you better results, lightweight, nourishing conditioner, and deep conditioning hair mask are also essentials.
When it comes to styling products, using a dry shampoo that’s not overly drying is beneficial for going longer between washes and giving your hair the refresh you want.
What is your go-to styling product and styling tool?
My go-to styling product has to be a hybrid styling oil, like Nume Sleeky in a Bottle serum, that can be added to either wet hair for blow drying or dry hair for silk press curls and provides hydration and shine.
For styling tools, I love the Megastar Hair Straightener! This versatile iron is perfect for both straightening and curling. When heat styling, it’s important to customize your heat settings for you specific hair type - if you can get away with styling at a lower heat temperature for normal to finer texture and higher temperatures for coarser, thick, and virgin hair.
How do you empower and instill confidence to your clients leaving your chair?
Everyone’s hair is considered the crown of their spirit, I love to help beautify their hair to their best visual self, boosting their confidence and empowering their soul by helping them look their best with perfect hair.
