For preparation

Before you begin styling your hair with a flat iron or a curling wand, make sure that it has been washed, shampooed, and mostly importantly - completely dry before thermal heat styling.

That's because ironing wet hair can also cause a lot of damage - the heat from the iron causes the water to in the hair to turn into steam, which then expands inside the hair shaft.

This can lead to weakened hair structure, creating micro-bubbles within the hair fiber that result in brittleness and breakage.
