NuMe’s 10 Year Anniversary: Meet Founder & CEO, Sabrina Maren

In honor of our 10 year anniversary and the start of the new year, we sat down with founder and CEO of NuMe, Sabrina Maren, who discusses her journey and the future of her company.

Tell us about your backstory, and how you worked your way up to becoming the CEO & founder of your own company?

I was born in Schwetzingen, a small German town reminiscent of fairy tales. I moved to America to begin exploring new opportunities, that allowed me to travel to several different states. Since it was always so cold in Germany, I wanted to find a spot that I could enjoy some warm and sunny weather. I later settled in beautiful Miami, Florida. Moving to a new city comes with new challenges, and hair styling was a struggle in the humid climate. I constantly thought to myself, there has to be a better way. Everyday hairstyling should be easy. Since I could not find a solution to styling my stubborn hair, I wanted to create a working tool that was not on the market. I decided to research solutions for myself to find the most high-caliber products available, and that's how it all started. In 2004, I launched my first business venture in an industry that truly fascinated me. As the years went by, I continued to educate myself in different hairstyling technologies. In 2009, NuMe was born and my journey began.

What inspired you to take the bold and ambitious step towards creating your own business?

It was always about setting goals and achieving it from day one. With ambition and motivation, there's nowhere to go but up. Of course, beginning a business from ground up is not always easy, but as long as you have the drive and determination, everything is possible. I knew that creating the life I wanted would only be attained by no one other than myself. In order to accomplish my vision, I had to be prepared for the struggles I may face and take advantage of those learning lessons that helped me along the way. Being my own boss, I stay away from cutting any corners and ensure that my products stay true to how it started, high quality tools that provide beautiful results.

Being that you were a CEO before launching NuMe, what advice would you give to other women working in their respective fields or starting their own business ventures? What qualities makes a great leader?

The advice I would give to women starting their own business is to know your strengths and weaknesses, and use them to your advantage. Find people that you know you will grow and flourish with, and surround yourself with passionate people that can complement your capabilities. Always think outside of the box and don't get stuck doing things the same way. Dare to be bold and different! Everything starts with a great idea and a common goal. Another important piece of advice would be to be hands-on. Show up to work and be involved in daily operations. Experience is the best teacher. To be an effective leader you have to have the initiative to influence unity within your team and allow everyone to be involved in activities and decisions made for the greater good of the company. For anyone who is thinking about starting their own brand or business, don't hold back! Your dreams are and should be bigger than you! Anything is possible. You just have to start.

What are the values that NuMe stands for?

NuMe is not only a brand that has innovated the hair styling game, but a lifestyle that promotes self-love and empowerment for all. We take pride in providing the highest quality styling tools and providing customers the products to feel their most beautiful. It fills my heart that customers are able to take NuMe tools to create unique styles that bring out their inner confidence. We believe that everyone should feel confident and beautiful all the time.

What is the essence of a NuMe Woman?

A NuMe woman radiates beauty from within. A NuMe woman takes on the world with passion and drive and positively influences everyone around her while doing so. I am constantly inspired everyday by women who feel empowered to take on any obstacle with passion and perseverance. It is extremely rewarding to be a part of many women's journeys by providing them with the tools they need to create looks that give them the extra bit of confidence to take on the world one day at a time.

NuMe is turning 10 years old in 2019! Tell us about your vision for the next 10 years. What exciting projects are coming next?

I can't believe that is has been a decade since NuMe was founded! Year after year, I always set a goal for myself to continue creating products that innovate in the world of beauty and hair. During this digital age trends always evolve, but we still continue to give our consumers timeless and lasting results. We strive to create products for all hair types and textures in our vision of inclusive beauty. Look for some exciting new innovations in 2019 and the next decade to come!
