Dutch Braids with Glitter Roots
Rave it up with funky braids plus a sparkly scalp. Peep this YouTube tutorial from hairstylist Alexsis Mae for a basic how-to on simple Dutch braids. If you’re looking for hair glitter, they’ve got LOTS of it on Amazon, and while most of it will stick on its own (glitter is practically indestructible after all). You can firmly secure both the braids in your hair and the glitter on your roots with hairspray.
Safety Pins
If you’re going to try using safety pins as a hair accessory, Halloween raves are certainly the ideal occasion to take the plunge. Social media influencers were spotted adorning beaded safety pins in their braids at outdoor festivals this year, but that’s just one of many ways you can rock this look. For a 4-1-1 on how to add chains with beaded pins to your strands, check out this video from YouTuber Sophie Hannah.
Pigtail Bubble Ponies
If you’re braid-phobic—or just really unskilled, shall we say—at braiding your hair, the bubble ponytail(s) is a very doable alternative. Fashion them in pigtail form, and you are in Halloween heaven. Beauty influencer Rimi from the YouTube channel ItsRimi posted this how-to video for some bubble pigtails on really long hair or extensions. Use a texturizing spray to create even fuller looking bubbles once the hair is styled.
Space Buns with Face Framers
Space buns are a rave staple. Make yours extra femme this Halloween season by leaving a couple of small front sections out to frame your face. Your hair needs to be on the dirty side for this, so get your dry shampoo ready to spritz into roots before brushing and bunning. YouTube hair enthusiast Brittany Nichole created a simple tutorial for space buns here. Feel free to also add as much glitter as possible to this look.
Curls and Crystals
A deep side part with some perfectly coiffed waves created by our Classic Curling Wand equals the perfect canvas for a smattering of hair crystals, glitter, and color. Always use a heat-protective agent prior to utilizing the wand. Looking for chunky rhinestone crystals that’ll work on your scalp and body? We like this affordable kit from Amazon.
Any of these looks will have you ready to rave and spook this Halloween. Oh, and again, when in doubt, always add more glitter. For more hair inspo, follow us @NuMeHair on Instagram.
